A wet Wednesday 24th Feb saw over 700 primary school children descend on Passmores School to compete in a cross-country event. The children, all from schools in the Harlow School Sports Partnership, were competing for places in the County Final to be held at Southend RFC on 3rd March.
Competition Manager Dave Roberson set quite a challenging course through the school grounds: “We had the Yr 3 & 4 pupils running 1000m while the Yr 5 & 6 children ran approx 1500m. The more experienced athletes found it challenging while the new competitors seemed to enjoy themselves. “By all accounts this was perfect Cross Country weather….wet and muddy!!!
After 3hrs of closely fought races, Henry Moore Primary school emerged as overall winners followed closely by St James Primary School.
These two, along with Roydon, Pear Tree Mead, St Lukes, & Holy Cross Schools, who won their respective age group races will represent Harlow at the County Final event.
Dave Roberson commented “It was good to have representatives of the local athletics club at the event. My hope is that some of these talented athletes will join Harlow Athletic Club in the near future and be competing regularly.
