Hockey Qualifiers - 31 teams make great event

A day for all seasons! Well done to all the staff and pupils of the 31 teams who competed in this year’s Hockey qualifiers at Church Langley and Passmores Academy. The morning session at Church Langley began with 12 teams slightly concerned about the howling winds and driving rain which descended upon the all-weather pitch. A few anxious phone calls were received, but as always at Church Langley, the motto of ‘All weather pitch – All weather people!’ holds firm. The morning session saw 18 games being played across two pitches with Mrs Pardoe and Mr Stacey umpiring. The standard was really high, and children quickly adapted to the conditions, utilising long passes and quick play.

The afternoon sessions were held at both Church Langley (12 teams) and Passmores Academy (7 teams) with Mr Hammond organising the later event. Again, the standard of play was excellent as were the behaviours of all the pupils involved. Those who were rested between matches, mingled and shared tales of ‘which secondary school places they’d been allocated’ and new friendships were formed.

The results of the 3 events were as follows – the winners from each group will return to Church Langley next Friday afternoon to compete in the final.
