Harlow SSP Year 3&4 Kwik Cricket Festival

On Thursday 6thJune  2013 over 90 children aged 8 & 9 descended on Harlow Town Cricket Club to Take part in the first ever year 3&4 Kwik cricket festival.

In the glorious sunshine all players spent the morning receiving coaching in all the cricket skills they would need for the afternoon which saw a series of inter school matches take place.

There were 10 teams in total representing 7 different primary schools (Abbotsweld, Church Langley, Holy Cross, Latton Green, Pear Tree Mead, Roydon and St Luke’s).

The teams were spilt into two groups of five and all played 4 matches with the winning team in each group taking part in a final.  Abbotsweld were undefeated in their group and stormed into the final but the second group finished with 3 teams on equal points and Pear Tree Mead ended up going through due to a better head to head result.

In the final Pear Tree Mead batted first and set Abbotsweld an achievable 228 (all schools start on 200) to win.  Abbotsweld went about chasing down the total in style and ended up with a massive 262 runs to take the final and the inaugural trophy back to their school.

George Gardiner Partnership Manger; Harlow SSP said “it was great to everyone enjoying playing cricket and learning about the game together and it was particularly nice given the younger ages of the children involved today that it went so well.

Everyone who has taken part in today deserves a massive thank you for making the day such a success with particular mention to the support the event gets from Harlow Town Cricket Club who hosted and assisted with the event and to Harlow College who supported the event with Sports Leaders”.
