Henry Moore Girls reach County Finals
Congratulations to the Years 5 and 6 Girls from Henry Moore, who reached the County Finals of this year’s football tournament with a strong performance in the finals to beat a spirited Jerounds 2-0.
The annual event at Mark Hall Sports Centre was incredibly well attended with 16 teams playing in group matches to decide the semi-finalists. As we have come to expect with the girls tournament, the standard of general play is improving and there are always one or two players in every team who are very strong. This year’s surprise was the high standard of goalkeeping, with some amazing saves and confident commanding of their area seen by a number of teams.
Following the group matches, the Henry Moore saw off Saint Nicholas (3-0), whilst Jerounds narrowly edged out Nazeing (1-0 in the semi-finals. Whilst Henry Moore were taking the first place medals, Nazeing beat Saint Nicholas 1-0 to take bronze medals.
Thank you to all the girls who participated with such enthusiasm and to the fabulous school staff for their support with the event. Special mentions to Mr Brown (Saint Nicholas), Mr Esteves (The Downs) and Mr Newborough (Freshwaters) for officiating. We wish Henry Moore all the very best as they represent Harlow in the County Finals later this term.
