Tchoukball Festival – a hit with the kids and staff
With temperatures just above freezing, the children and staff combined to produce a very successful Tchoukball Festival. Developed in Switzerland in response to high numbers of sporting injuries, Tchoukball combines elements of many sports (netball, handball, basketball) but introduces the use of multidirectional attacking – points can be scored at any end!
Having had a quick demonstration of the adapted rules by Luke Hammond (Purford Green) and SGO David Stacey, the children were grouped across 4 pitches to play a series of friendly matches, designed to engage new audiences and develop new skills. The afternoon was great and many comments from the children reflected positively on how the game is as much about thinking and communicating as it is about physical skill and sporting attributes. Staff agreed to host further Tchoukball events in the warmer summer months, with the possibility of mini-leagues being created.
