Congratulations to the Best Team of Freshwaters who successfully gained the Year 5 and 6 Football title in a closely fought encounter at Mark Hall Academy. On a gloomy afternoon and with the help of the amazing Harlow school staff to hastily rearrange the fixtures, the 9 teams who qualified from last week’s events came together to challenge for the opportunity to represent Harlow in the County Finals at Chelmsford.
Having played two matches in the group stages, the teams were ranked and re-pooled into the last round matches. The three teams competing for the title played in some thrilling games, with Cooks Spinney and Henry Moore both performing strongly and creating chances. However, the team from Freshwaters, passed the ball with pace and accuracy to create significant chances which were well taken and thus ensured the title by the closest of margins.
Once again, the children thanked the staff who stepped in to officiate and for providing them with the opportunity to play and have fun – which they did. The level of sportsmanship on display was excellent across all pitches and the standard was high.
Results were as follows:
Finals Group:
1. Freshwaters – 5 points
2. Henry Moore – 4 points
3. Cooks Spinney – 3 points
Shield Group:
Pemberley Academy
St Nicholas
Little Parndon
Plate Group:
Nazeing
Pear Tree Mead
Fawbert and Barnard
