Harlow School Sports Partnership Tag Rugby Festival
Thursday 22nd Oct saw over 300 hundred school children descend on Harlow Rugby Football Club to compete in a TAG rugby competition.
28 teams representing 23 of Harlow’s Primary & Junior schools competed in the Harlow School Sport Partnership Final – the winners being rewarded with a place in the County Final to be held at Southend RFC on 26th November.
The morning, overcast but thankfully dry, saw a fiercely competed qualifying competition as results of these games would lead to seedings for the main event.
From two hours of skilful rugby, played in great spirit, emerged 4 pool winners:
St James A
St Lukes A
Jerounds A
Church Langley A
who would go on to play for the School Sports Partnership Trophy.
All remaining schools were placed in pools dependant on their placing in the qualifying competition and went on to compete against opposition of similar quality.
After just over 3hrs of free-flowing, entertaining rugby, Church Langley emerged victorious, successfully defending their shared title.
Competition Manager Dave Roberson commented “It was fantastic seeing so many young people playing rugby and enjoying themselves. The competitive edge was there for all to see and it made for a number of fascinating inter-school clashes. I’d like to publicly thank Harlow RFC for both hosting the event, and supplying the match officials who worked tirelessly throughout the day.”
George Gardiner – School Sport Partnership Manager said “it is wonderful to see so many school children from Harlow participating in a sporting competition”.
