Congratulations to the ‘Best Team’ cricketers from St Nicholas who took first place in this year’s inaugural Dynamos Cricket Finals at the Harlow Town CC. Played on what was billed as the hottest day of the year, the 13 teams raced through the matches to ensure the earliest finish possible before the highs of 34 degrees in the early afternoon took hold.
Unfortunately, due to many late weather-related withdrawals, the 24 booked on teams reduced to 13 – which was a very tricky number to schedule. This meant a group of 5, who had an extra game which had a knock-on effect. However, with large gazeboes provided by the cricket club, the players and staff were able to keep themselves cool – the strong breeze reduced overheating too!
Having played their group matches the semi-finals between Nazeing and Pear Tree Mead and St Nicholas and Purford Green were good contests; tighter bowling saw less runs and wickets but the fielding remained strong. The final between Nazeing and St Nicholas was even closer. Needing only 4 to win off the last over, some excellent tight bowling by St Nicholas and a wicket prevented Nazeing taking first place. St Nicholas will join the girls team in representing Harlow in the County Finals in the first week of July – we wish them well. The final results were as follows:
1st place – St Nicholas
2nd place – Nazeing
3rd place – Pear Tree Mead
4th place – Purford Green
5th place Little Parndon
6th place – Church Langley Whites
