Hatfield Heath win 'Spirit of Rugby' award

Despite the atrocious weather of the last month and the threat of Corona Virus, at last we managed to squeeze in some Tag-Rugby!

The morning briefing, which emphasised the development and coaching nature of the Festival, was adhered to by all players, coaches and spectators; this enabled children to play with less pressure and they seemed to really enjoy themselves. Hatfield Heath was nominated as the inaugural winners of ‘The Spirit of Rugby Award’ which was dedicated to the memory of Mr David Bown – Head Teacher of St Nicholas, who tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident last year. Mr Bown was an avid rugby fan and, in conjunction with the wishes of St Nicholas and his family, the Harlow SSP created the trophy to reward fair play and sportsmanship; a fitting tribute to an amazing man, taken far too soon.

Thanks to Harlow Rugby Club (Michael Weston and Paul Tucker) for communicating so brilliantly over the past few weeks; a huge thank you to the 23 teams who descended at Rams Gorse and made great progress in their understanding and play throughout the morning games; the group formats and re-pooling ensured that all teams were able to develop at an appropriate level. Our thanks were given to the school staff and umpires (Gill Pardoe, Malcolm Harries, Katie Boggas, Monica Jordan and Robert Hore) who enabled 72 matches to be played within 2 hours!

The 23 Teams who attended were as follows:

St Nicholas x 2, St Albans, St Lukes, Latton Green, Katherines, Jerounds, Little Parndon, Cooks Spinney x 2, Tanys Dell, Henry Moore x 2, Fawbert and Barnard, Hatfield Heath, Nazeing, The Downs, William Martin, Holy Cross, Pemberley, Freshwaters, Churchgate and Church Langley
