What an amazing day!
Thank you to all the schools and the children which attended the first Gifted and Talented Day of the year, we had a superb time. Once again we were blessed with a large number of children (nearly 80 children attended) and despite the arctic conditions outside, the children really excelled. The morning saw the children divided into 4 groups were they rotated around BMXing (in the freezing winds), Benchball/Tennis, Bouncefit and MMA for Kids. With a mixture of new and ‘tested’ activities, the coaches provided great inspiration for the children to try something new and challenges outdated stereotypes – namely in Bouncefit and MMA. As always the children were unanimous with their thanks for Craig Edwards (MMA for Kids), Julian Allen (Xcelerate BMXing)and Kate and her team (from Bouncefit); thanks were given to Gill and Sam who ensured the day ran so smoothly.
During the afternoon, the children were split into 8 teams were they organised themselves for a series of handball matches. This was really popular with the children unaimously requesting a futue handball festival.
A hectic day concluded with the children feeding back on the day’s events, their own performances and offering suggestions for improvements. It was a privilege to organise and observe the children throughout this event – we are looking forward to days 2 and 3 later in the year.
