If the weather was cold in the morning, it was chillier for the afternoon’s Year 5 and 6 girl’s event. The Girls event mirrored the morning festival – lots of games, limited time and plenty of enjoyment. With 18 teams competing across 3 groups it was a fantastic effort to get all the games played within the time. The difference being that as we are required to produce a County Finalist the competition was on to take home the Winner’s Trophy.
The opening rounds saw the girls adapt to the large spaces; some found the extra time baring down on goal too much to handle, often shooting wide when eventually reaching the keeper. Once the girls realised that passing the ball was more efficient than constantly chasing it, the standard improved. Once the teams were re-pooled the final match was contested between Henry Moore and Cooks Spinney (who had won through by virtue of a coin toss). The final was tense and Henry Moore won the game with a well-taken goal. We wish them success in the County Final on Thursday 21stNovember 2019 at Chelmsford.
Teams competing were:
Fawbert and Barnard x 2
St Albans
St Lukes
Freshwaters x 2
Cooks Spinney
Nazeing
The Downs x 2
