Cooks Spinney take both Badminton titles

A HUGE thank you to everyone who attended the Badminton Finals this Friday; with 13 teams (49 players and approximately 100 games) it was always going to be a big ask to get this played. Thankfully, having learned our lessons from last year, the earlier start and later finishing times allowed for a less frantic ending than previous years.

As ever, with the newer events that we organise, I shall take on board any feedback and think carefully about altering the schedule, timings, groupings to suit the venue and time available - whilst trying to ensure that we keep high levels of participation and a good standard of play. So apologies to any team who booked on or arrived expecting a morning of coaching followed by some games; this may have been the original intention but it simple wasn’t possible this time around.

Despite some last minute pupil withdrawals which affected some schools, the 13 teams that entered managed to perform really well; the staff from schools who supported the event by umpiring and organising their children were amazing – we simply couldn’t have achieved the success without you. Having played in 3 groups, with matches against each school the children did really well, making improvement throughout. The group results were as follows:

Group 1

Milwards – 12 points

Freshwaters – 10 points

Little Parndon – 8 points

The Downs - 6 points

Harlowbury 3 – 4 points

Group 2

Cooks Spinney A – 9 points

Harlowbury 2 – 7 points

St Albans – 5 points

The Downs 3 – 3 points

Group 3

Harlowbury 1 – 9 points

Cooks Spinney B – 7 points

The Downs – 5 points

St Lukes – 3 points

The top four teams, progressed to two separate finals, where Cooks Spinney A triumphed over Milwards; and Cooks Spinney B outscored Freshwaters; both victors will represent Harlow at the Level 3 County Finals.
