Church Langley take Coxhead trophy

A huge thank you to Andy Martin, from Passmores Academy, who came to our rescue after we had been very badly let down by Harlow Town FC. Despite various confirmations and emails, Arnold Worton-Geer (Football Secretary) was informed that we would be unable to host the football finals at Harlow Town FC, just 10 minutes before we were due to start. Having made some hasty phone calls, Passmores gave us permission to host the Coxhead trophy finals on the all-weather surface at Passmores.

The four teams from Abbotsweld, Nazeing, St Lukes and Church Langley had all qualified through a series of matches throughout the season and came together to play a semi-final and then final (or 3rd/4thplayoff). The matches were competitive with some excellent skill on show. All 4 teams looked capable of taking victory as matches ebbed and flowed. In their respective semi-finals, Church Langley came from behind to beat St Lukes 6-2, whilst Abbotsweld outscored Nazeing 2-0 somewhat against the run of play. Both following matches finished in draws. St Lukes took 3rdplace with a Golden Goal in the opening seconds of extra time to beat Nazeing 4-3. The final between Abbotsweld and Church Langley failed to produce a winner within extra time and the game went to penalties. Church Langley took 3 attempts to secure the victory winning 5-4 on penalties; they claimed the Coxhead trophy, named after the previous long standing Chairman of the Harlow SSP – Terry Coxhead.
