Congratulations to the team from Church Langley who held off many strong challengers to take home this year’s Best Team Kwik-Cricket Trophy. This prestigious award is named in the memory of Sohaib Shakoor, who tragically lost his life in a house fire a few years ago in Abbotsweld; the competitors held a minute’s applause in his honour before announcing this year’s champions.
Teams from: Harlowbury, Nazeing, Church Langley, Fawbert and Barnard, Hatfield Heath, Purford Green, St Nicholas, Roydon, The Downs and Holy Cross competed really well, with all teams making significant improvements throughout the event.
With 10 teams playing in 2 groups across 4 pitches the standard improved across the day. The games were tight affairs with some very impressive bowling, some huge hits and electric fielding. Church Langley overcame Nazeing in a sportingly competitive final. They will go forward to represent Harlow in the County Finals at Billericay CC on Tuesday 2nd July.
Thanks were given to the Harlow CC who hosted and provided umpires throughout the day. Special mentions to Gill Pardoe and Rebecca Lott (Church Langley) and David Stacey (SGO Harlow) for organising yet another a well-run event.
