Gifted and Talented day 1 - Great day!

What an amazing day!

Thank you to all the schools and the children which attended the first Gifted and Talented Day of the year, we had a superb time. Once again we were blessed with huge numbers of children (over 110 children attended) and despite the horrific weather, the children really excelled. The morning saw the children divided into 4 groups were they rotated around BMXing (in the pouring rain), Archery, Cheerleading and Karate.  With a mixture of new and ‘tested’ activities, the coaches provided great inspiration for the children to try something new and challenges outdated stereotypes – namely in Cheerleading and Karate. As always the children were unanimous with their thanks for Mikey Smith (Oblivion Allstars Cheer), Julian Allen (Xcelerate BMXing)and Des and Alfie (from Kazan Kai); thanks were given to Gill, Rebecca and John Esteves (The Downs) who ensured the day ran so smoothly.

During the afternoon, the children were split into 8 teams were they organised themselves for a series of sportshall track races. This was really pleasing to see, the children worked so well with ‘virtual strangers’ to ensure their team had the right number of participants for each event – this was all done without adult intervention.

A hectic day concluded with the children feeding back on the day’s events, their own performances and offering suggestions for improvements at their own schools. It was a privilege to organise and observe the children throughout this event – we are looking forward to days 2 and 3 later in the year.
