Nazeing win on penalties in thrilling final

Congratulations to Nazeing Primary School who won the Years 5 and 6 Best Team Football Final in a thrilling penalty shoot-out. With 37 teams beginning the competition, the final 8 congregated at Mark Hall Academy to play for the Football trophy.

The standard across both groups of 4 was very strong, with many games settled by a moment of magic, a lapse in concentration or pure fluke; a couple of the teams were very unfortunate that the passing style of football was ‘undone’ by the more traditional route-one style. The gorup results were as follows:

Group 1

Nazeing - 8 points

Church Langley - 6 points

Holy Cross - 5 points

Little Parndon - 5 points

Group 2

St Albans - 7 points (through on head to head result)

Henry Moore - 7 points

St Lukes - 6 points

Potter Street - 4 points

Both Nazeing and St Albans topped their groups, both finishing unbeaten. The final was a tense affair and both teams had opportunities to win the match in normal time; the St Albans keeper making a series of amazing saves to deny Nazeing. Having finished goaless in normal and extra time, penalties loomed and both teams again finished level (4-4) after the first 5 efforts. Sudden death proved decisive as Nazeing took the win 3-2. Both teams performed really well and deserved to be rewarded for their efforts.

Thanks again to Gill Pardoe (Church Langley)  and David Stacey (SGO) for officiating throughout.
