Well done to all the ‘youngsters’ from across the 14 teams who thoroughly enjoyed their morning of football at Mark Hall’s all-weather pitch. Although the strong winds blew, the sun shone down from early on as the staff from various schools worked fantastically well together to ensure pupils receive maximum playing time, whilst ensuring results were kept respectable – this was a great strength of the event, ensuring that everyone went away feeling valued.
The 14 teams played in various groups, with Gill Pardoe, Rebecca Lott and Jay Odebode (Little Parndon) assisting myself to work through a hastily adjusted schedule. The standard of play was really good and the introduction of the retreat line has certainly improved the attempts for teams to pass the ball from their own half. Obviously at this age, there are always one or two players from each team which really stand out and make a difference but how lovely it was to see them share in other’s delight when they scored a goal; made a save; or simply make a tackle!
Teams on display were: Roydon, Freshwaters, Cooks Spinney, Tanys Dell (A and B), Henry Moore (A, B and C), Church Langley (A and B), St Albans, St Lukes, Holy Cross and Little Parndon.
