With the snow having melted and a week later than scheduled, 33 teams (roughly 330 kids) descended upon the Harlow Rugby Club for this year’s Tag-Rugby qualifiers for Years 5 and 6. Split over 2 sections the morning teams were very strong and required little coaching, playing some excellent running rugby. The investment by some of the schools to employ specialist rugby coaching clearly showed, as the children passed very confidently and ran in some excellent tries.
The afternoon teams were more of a mixed bag, with some of the teams well prepared whilst others were learning as they went – all teams made good progress and despite some confusion over the teams who should have been there, eventually we were able to ensure that the group games were completed by 3.15pm. As ever thanks to the Harlow Rugby Club (Michael Weston) for hosting; the grounds are amazing and the kids are clearly inspired by playing at such a marvellous venue. Thanks for the various staff members, who assisted myself, Gill Pardoe and Malcolm Harries to ensure all 58 games were completed. The results were as follows and the 7 group winners are invited to return next Friday (16thMarch) to play in the finals.
