Freezing wind can't stop Yr3/4 Rugby Festival

And finally my fingers have thawed out!

Well what an exhausting day but fantastic day! Thank you to the 20 teams who braved the freezing cold winter weather to take part in this year’s Year 3/4 Tag-Rugby Festival at the amazing new, Harlow Rugby Club. The morning saw 6 teams take part in a series of round robin matches and, despite the frozen surfaces, the children were clearly well-drilled and played some excellent rugby.

Having stopped briefly for a quick bit of lunch and to find some extra gloves, it was back out to referee the 15 teams for Gill Pardoe, Malcolm Harries and myself. The afternoon games were always going to be a big task. 10 matches on each of the 3 pitches meant that time was tight and changeovers needed to be slick; unfortunately as can happen with the best laid plans, things didn’t quite go as smoothly as one school went to the wrong venue before deciding not to participate and some of the children suffered in the freezing temperatures. However, despite a few over-zealous adults, in the main the children enjoyed themselves and the progress across many of the teams/individuals was clearly visible and this will stand them in good stead for future tournaments It was great to link up with the rugby club; they are willing for us to utilise the amazing facilities more often and this is something that we shall certainly take full advantage of.

Thank you to all the children, spectators and staff for their efforts today; special mention to Michael Weston – School’s Officer for the Harlow Rugby Club – who was on hand to support today’s event His assistance today was invaluable and very much appreciated.
