Slam Dunk it, flip it and ride it!
…or something like that? What a great day. Thanks to everyone involved in the hastily rearranged Basketball tournament, it was an amazing success due to the support from so many school staff –thank you all.
The majority of the day was spent playing the group games (all 15 of them!) The standard of play was excellent and the level of competitive but sporting behaviour was a pleasure to observe; the children have really made this event one of our ‘crown jewels’ – especially considering that it was previously very rough!
The result so the group matches are as follows:
Group 1
Nazeing B - 15 points
Church Langley B - 13 points
Pear Tree Mead A – 11 points
Churchgate – 9 points
Tanys Dell A – 6 points
Cooks Spinney – 6 points
Group 2
Nazeing A – 15 points
Tanys Dell B - 13 points
Freshwaters A – 11 points
The Downs A – 9 points
Abbotsweld B – 7 points
Pear Tree Mead B – 5 points
Group 3
Church Langley A – 15 points
St Lukes - 13 points
Little Parndon – 11 points
The Downs B – 8 points
Abbotsweld A – 8 points
Freshwaters B – 5 points
Following a count back, Tanys Dell B narrowly edged out Church Langley B and St Lukes on baskets scored, as they finished on 13 points in the race for the best runner-up place. With the semi-final draws pitting Nazeing A against Nazeing B and Tanys Dell B against Church Langley A it was always going to be a tight affair to make it to the final. And so it proved. Nazeing A overcame a deficit to win by a single score, whilst Church Langley rescued a first half deficit to overcome a valiant Tanys Dell. The final was a close game, with Nazeing A securing the trophy 12 – 6; they will go forward to represent Harlow in the forthcoming Level 3 County Finals at the Leisure Zone on the 19thJanuary. In the 3rd/4thplace play off, Nazeing B held strong in another really good game.
