Whilst we can say congratulations to the victorious team from Church Langley, who retained the Brister Rounders Cup in a thrilling finals, the evening was all about saying thank you and farewell to the fabulous Angela Brister.
For many, many years know (more than the 18 years I've been at Church Langley) Angela Brister has been an absolute rock and stalwart for the Rounders competition; she organises the pool groups, pitch markings, rule changes and final event so fantastically well that I doubt things will ever be as good. The presentation of the trophy was very emotional for everyone, particularly Angela, who gave a moving tribute in her final farewell. She will always be welcome at 'her' event and we very much hope she will be able to return in the forthcoming years to present (and maybe umpire?) at future finals.
The evening of rounders was of the usual high standard, with the 5 teams (Church Langley, Nazeing, William Martin, Fawbert and Barnard and St James) all playing different variations and tactics. The games were very competitive, with Church Langley eventually taking 1st place from William Martin 2nd. Church Langley will go on to represent Harlow at the Level 3 event in Gosfield on the 4th July; we wish them well.
