Yr 3/4 Girls Football Festival- great success

Fortunately the predicted torrential rain storm kept away as 16 teams of Years 3/4 Girls enjoyed a fantastic day’s football at Mark Academy School. The morning was devoted to inspiring the girls through some fun drills and activities; the activities were designed to develop the girls dribbling, shooting and passing skills in conjunction with improving their communication skills. The girls were a credit to their schools as teams from: Tanys Dell, Church Langley, Milwards, Fawbert and Barnard, The Downs, St Nicholas, Pear Tree Mead, and St Lukes smiled and laughed their way through the mild conditions.

The afternoon was a great sight to witness; the girls made so much progress in a limited time, really improving their understanding of the game. Initially the teams were grouped in 4’s playing three matches to determine their new pool. Having been re-pooled, the games were closer as the girls found it easier against teams of a similar ability; the margins between winning and losing became tighter and some thrilling goal-mouth action was seen all over the astro-turf! Eventually, Church Langley A triumphed over joint runners-up Milwards and The Downs, with Fawbert and Barnard A finishing an impressive fourth place; special mention to The Downs who only had 4 players but were still determined to be part of the day - a big thank you to all the teams who ‘lent’ players throughout the afternoon.

As always special thanks to all the staff members and referees who officiated and organised the games/drills; again the children of Harlow have thrived due to their dedication to enjoyment through sport.
