Kwik Cricket 2012

Harlow Sports Partnership - Abbotsweld and Church Langley take cricket titles!

On Tuesday 29th May 2012 over 200 year 5/6 boys and girls, representing 22 school teams descended on Harlow Town Cricket Club to take part in the annual Harlow School Sport Partnership Kwik Cricket Festival.

Kwik Cricket is a modified version of the full game.  Each team has eight players and bats and bowls for eight overs in each match.  On the day teams were competing in a best team and girl’s team competition.

In the best team event four teams topped their round robin groups and competed in semi-finals and then a final - these were Abbotsweld, Fawbert & Barnard, Latton Green and Pear Tree Mead.

Abbotsweld (259 for 4 wickets) beat Pear Tree Mead (242 for 7 wickets) and Fawbert & Barnard (286 for 2 wickets) beat Latton Green (195 for 8 wickets).

In the final Abbotsweld were victorious (226 for 1 wicket) beating Fawbert & Barnard (206 for 6 wickets) and Pear Tree Mead (295 for 1 wicket) came 3rd after beating Latton Green ( 245 for 1 wicket) in a 3rd/4th place play off match.

In the girls competition 10 teams all played in 2 large round robin groups and the top two teams faced each other in a final.  Church Langley showed off their dominance of the girls with their A and B teams facing each other in the final.  The A team won the final with a score of 234 for 4 wickets against the B teams score of 205 for 9 wickets.  The win also meant that Church Langley successfully defended their title which they won last year.

Abbotsweld and Church Langley will now represent Harlow at the county finals taking place at Billericay CC on 25th (Girls) and 26th (Best Team) June 2012.

The whole event was delivered in partnership with Harlow Town Cricket Club and Harlow College and Passmores Academy students also supported the event by acting as umpires and scorers.

The following schools entered teams: Abbotsweld, Church Langley, Fawbert & Barnard, Latton Green, Pear Tree Mead, Roydon, St Albans, St Lukes, and Water Lane.

George Gardiner Partnership Manger; Harlow SSP said “everybody who took part today did really well, and the whole event was played in great spirit and I would like to wish Abbotsweld and Church Langley good luck in the County Finals.

I would also like to thank our partners in delivering this event as without their support it would not have taken place and been such a big success so thanks to Harlow Town Cricket Club, Harlow College and Passmores Academy”.
