Congratulations to Nazeing Primary who secured the Brister Cup in this year’s Rounder Finals. For the first time ever, the rounders event was held during the school day at Harlow Town CC with 26 teams scheduled to play. Despite the soaring temperatures the children were magnificent and the standard of play was incredibly high throughout. As we have come to expect the support from the school staff enabled us to ‘rattle’ through an intense schedule and even finish ahead of time.
Teams participating were:
Nazeing A and B, Church Langley A and B, Freshwaters, Henry Moore A and B, Water Lane, Fawbert and Barnard, Purford Green, Kingsmoor, St Lukes, Harlowbury, William Martin, Tanys Dell A and B, Holy Cross, Hatfield Heath and Churchgate.
The morning saw 6 groups of teams play out some pool matches to find a group winner, who then went forward into 2 smaller groups of three to find the finalist. In the final Freshwaters performed amazingly well and were narrowly edged out by a superb performance from Nazeing 8-6; it really was a fitting end to the legacy created by former William Martin teacher, Mrs Angela Brister. We would again like to express our thanks to all the parents who came and supported (sunbathed) the children, many cheering as best as they could despite the complicated rules! Thanks also to the staff who managed their teams so well and umpired many games so efficiently; with special thanks to Gill Pardoe (Church Langley) who ‘helped’ David Stacey (SGO) to mark out all the pitches the night before, administered first aid to the injured and umpired throughout the day!
