St Albans riding high with Cricket victory

Congratulations to the team from St Albans who held off many strong challengers to take home this year’s Best Team Kwik-Cricket Trophy. This prestigious award is named in the memory of Sohaib Shakoor, who tragically lost his life in a house fire a few years ago in Abbotsweld; the competitors held a minute’s applause in his honour before proceedings started.

Teams from: St Albans, Nazeing, Church Langley, Fawbert and Barnard, Kingsmoor, St Lukes, Freshwaters, Cooks Spinney, Milwards, St Nicholas and Tanys Dell, Roydon, The Downs and Pear Tree Mead competed really well, with all teams making significant improvements throughout the event.

With 17 teams playing, the schedule was always going to be a tight one but following a long morning of group matches the 4 semi-finalists were eventually selected from the four group winners: from St Albans, Nazeing, Church Langley and Fawbert and Barnard. The games were tight affairs with some very impressive bowling, some huge hits and electric fielding. St Albans beat Church Langley, whilst Nazeing edged a great match with Fawbert and Barnard. The final was a close affair again with St Albans doing just enough to see them to victory. They will go forward to represent Harlow in the County Finals at Billericay CC on Tuesday 27thJune.

Thanks were given again to the Harlow Town CC for hosting the expanding venue and to the Sports Leaders from Passmores, who umpired throughout the day. Special mentions to Gill Pardoe (Church Langley) and David Stacey (SGO Harlow) for organising yet another a well-run event.
